  • To use Google Pay, you’ll need:

    • A compatible Android device (usually Android 5.0 or later).
    • The Google Wallet app (free to download from the Google Play Store).
    • A Google Account.
    • A screen lock set up (e.g. fingerprint, PIN, pattern, or face unlock).
  • In the Google Wallet app:

    1. Tap Add to Wallet and select Payment card.
    2. You can scan your card or enter the details manually.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your card.
  • To pay in-store:

    1. Wake your phone (unlock if needed).
    2. Hold the back of your phone near the contactless payment terminal.
    3. Your phone will vibrate or beep to confirm the payment.
    4. You’ll see a checkmark or confirmation screen when it’s done.
  • Many Android apps let you choose Google Pay at checkout:

    1. Shop as usual in a supported app.
    2. At checkout, select Google Pay as your payment method.
    3. Confirm the purchase using your phone’s authentication method (fingerprint, face, or PIN).
  • Open the Google Wallet app, tap your card, and scroll down to view recent Google Pay transactions.

  • Refunds work the same way as with a physical card:

    • Go back to the retailer with your receipt and the phone you used to pay.
    • Hold your phone near the card reader, just like when you paid.
    • The refund will go back to the same card via Google Pay.
    • You’ll see the refund in your bank account once it’s processed (usually within a few days).
  • Use Google Pay to tap and ride without unlocking your phone for select public transport systems.

    To enable:

    • Open the Google Wallet app.
    • Select your card and tap Set as default for transit (if available).
    • Use your phone to tap and ride at gates or terminals.
    • Availability may vary depending on your local transit provider.
