Important information about your store card payments

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) defines persistent debt as paying more in interest, fees and charges than you are paying off your store card balance and this continues for a sustained period.

  • The payments you’ve made over the last 18 months have gone more towards interest, fees and charges than towards paying off the amount you owe. This is because you’ve made minimum or low payments on your card account.

We also have to let you know the implications of continuing to make low payments on your account and that advice or support is available if you need it.

These rules mean that we need to provide you with this information, and take action if your payments aren’t high enough to change your situation in the next 18 months.

  • If you can afford to, please pay more than the minimum amount requested on your monthly statement.

The more you pay back, the quicker you will clear your balance. Paying more each month also means that you’ll save money on interest charges, as interest is calculated daily on your remaining balance.

If you pay by Direct Debit, unfortunately we are not able to increase your Direct Debit amount. However, if you’d like to make a regular additional payment each month, you can set up a standing order (you can do this directly from your bank account, see our ways to pay for details).

  • If the situation stays the same after 18 months, we’ll look at ways for you to repay quicker, over a reasonable period.

We may have to suspend your card after 18 months to protect you from getting into further debt, so please seriously consider if you can pay more.

  • We’ve had a problem sending you a letter about this information in the post. It’s in your terms and conditions to make sure we’ve got the right contact details for you.
